This is going to really damage, even be the Swan Song for many local, and especially, Mom & Pop businesses. It saddens me what people are going to face when the full magnitude of this virus spreads and finally hits the inner US. We are not at all prepared to deal with the crisis coming, especially the overwhelming strain it will be upon the healthcare system and it’s workers.
I’ve been trying to support the businesses still open in my neighborhood, but each day as I walk my dogs, it’s become more and more of a ghost town down Welton St and the surroundings blocks.
And I know friends who are restaurant workers and have been out of work a couple weeks now, they are all freaking out for upcoming bills and obligations they still have.
Long term, I wonder what will things look like once this levels and tapers.
Will we (and the US in general) experience an exponential increase in homelessness because so many, hundreds, maybe even thousands, are out of work?
I love our community and hope we can stay and stick together, supporting and helping each other in whatever way we are able to ♡ And I will keep supporting local through this all.
